Kovachevski - Varadkar: North Macedonia to feel EU membership benefits earlier

Skopje, 5 October 2023 (MIA) - Friendly bilateral relations and the interest for their further enhancement in all fields of mutual interest, primarily in the economic sector, were reaffirmed at a meeting of Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and Irish counterpart Leo Varadkar, held at the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Granada on Thursday.

PM Varadkar highlighted that Ireland is a strong supporter of North Macedonia's EU integration and one of the staunchest supporters of the Union enlargement policy, the Government said in a press release.

Varadkar referred to the benefits that Ireland has had as an EU member, something that other countries should also experience. In this regard, he said North Macedonia has been waiting on the EU path for too long.

Interlocutors also exchanged opinions on current political developments related to the constitutional amendments, with both reaffirming their adoption would move the country forward on the European path, reads the press release.
