Vilnius, 12 July 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski is scheduled to take part at two sessions within the NATO Summit and meet with Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday, MIA reports from Vilnius.
"Today we are resuming with two sessions, the first involving our Indo-Pacific partners - Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan - also attended by the European Commission and the European Council presidents. Heads of state and government from the Western Balkans will reaffirm the importance of European and Euro-Atlantic integration for the peace, security, stability and prosperity of this important area both for NATO and EU," PM Kovachevski wrote in a Facebook post.
The second session, he adds, is the newly-established NATO-Ukraine Council that will focus on the Alliance's support to Ukraine, as well as future steps to bring Ukraine closer to NATO.
"The Secretary-General said yesterday that a new plan regarding Ukraine has been adopted, including a simplified procedure, and the next steps will depend on the consensus of member-states and the situation in the field," says Kovachevski.
He reiterates the importance of the meeting amid a war in Ukraine.
"Let me express my enormous satisfaction from yesterday's first session that reaffirmed the NATO unity. We all welcomed Finland as the Alliance's 31st member and the crucial step towards Sweden's entry. The decisions we made were also very important, related to the continuation of the support for Ukraine, the drafting of regional security plans and the two-percent budget allocations, of which at least 20 percent for modernization purposes. In addition, a decision was made regarding the enlargement of cooperation among NATO allies in the part of cybersecurity and hybrid threats we are facing," notes Kovachevski.
