Kovachevski says Penov is excellent proposal for Minister of Local Self-Government, to strengthen Gov’t
Skopje, 25 October 2022 (MIA) – It is completely normal and acceptable for cabinet changes to take place. Specifically, I propose that Risto Penov be the Minister of Local Self-Government and I want to assure you that it is an excellent proposal that will strengthen the Government and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of its work, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski told Tuesday’s debate in Parliament on the nomination of Risto Penov as the new Minister of Local Self-Government.
“This is important for our municipalities, seeing them amid problems in a year of being led by incompetent mayors. I propose the right person, in the right place, at the right time. Risto Penov is a synonym for a successful mayor, for hard work, for results and success. He is a confirmation of modesty, honesty and hard work. He is a person who intervenes, cooperates and has a vision. Capital projects in Skopje, streets, bridges, infrastructure, kilometers of new roads, sidewalks, new squares, support of local businesses and culture speak best for him,” Kovachevski said.
Kovacevski is convinced that the Government will do much more in strategic policies both at the local and central level having Risto Penov in the area of local self-government.
According to the opposition, the Government is once again defocusing the public.
“What could Penov improve in the Government? The state is facing energy, economic and social crisis, we have total failure and corruption in the security sector, and Kovachevski, you are proposing change of the Minister of Local Self-Government, as if all else in the cabinet is good, and at the moment it is most important to improve local self-government,” said VMRO-DPMNE MP Dragan Kovachki.
The nomination of Risto Penov as the new Minister of Local Self-Government comes after his predecessor, LDP leader Goran Milevski, resigned from the post from personal reasons.
Penov, a former MP and Skopje mayor, is one of LDP’s founders and its ex-leader.
The session agenda also includes the laws related to the set of anti-crisis measures, changes to the laws on associations and political parties etc.
