Kovachevski: New energy in relations with Sofia puts many projects, possibilities for cooperation on the table
Skopje, 28 January 2022 (MIA) - New energy and dynamics in the relations with Bulgaria, established during the first meeting with the delegation of the Bulgarian government in Skopje, as well as the meeting in Sofia for the joint government session and the working groups, put many projects and possibilities for cooperation on the table, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said in an interview with the national broadcaster. “Instead of communication reduced to accusations, hate speech, propaganda, which doesn’t befit relations between two countries, we agreed on very tangible initiatives which will include chambers of commerce, the business community, so as to boost cooperation in economy and in other areas,” said Kovachevski. Commenting on concrete initiatives, he highlighted Corridor 8, pointing out it was not only important for North Macedonia and Bulgaria, but also for Albania as it connects two seas – the Black Sea and the Ionian Sea, thus giving the three countries a chance to reach ports in both Burgas and Durres, and connect with other countries. “In that way, Corridor 10 can also be used to increase transport, trade, logistics centers on this territory, particularly the territory of our country, given that we’re the center of Corridor 8,” Kovachevski pointed out. He stressed that according to information he has from the Railways, the project on the Skopje-Sofia railway is already underway. “Funding for certain sections has already been completed by international creditors and part of the state budget. The deadline for some visible results is 2027,” Kovachevski said, adding that though such deadline may seem distant from today’s perspective, it is quite ambitious and achievable given that the section is a difficult one. As regards Bulgarian PM Kiril Petkov’s before the Parliament in Bulgaria that preparations are underway for Bulgaria and North Macedonia on February 4 to mark together the 150th birth anniversary of Goce Delchev, Kovachevski pointed out that joint celebration of the revolutionary has taken place before, and this year it is organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries. “Petkov and I will not be part of it. I won’t be in the country that day, because I have work responsibilities abroad. Celebration of that day will continue in the future,” Kovachevski added.
