Kovachevski: It's up to Parliament to decide whether Skopje will open talks with EU
Skopje, 5 July 2022 (MIA) - Parliament will make a decision whether to start negotiating with the EU and will pass conclusions after the government will forward the European proposal, the bilateral protocol and another document to lawmakers, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski at a joint news conference with European Council President Charles Michel in Skopje. He informed that once the process of consultations is over regarding the European proposal, the bilateral agreement and yet another document will be forwarded to the assembly where parliamentary group coordinators and representatives of other parties will discuss the proposals. Kovachevski said that they should make a decision and draw conclusions all the while tasking the government with implementing it. "President Michel was very clear when saying we have a proposal that allows us to start negotiations with the EU immediately. It will be up to Parliament to decide whether the country will open negotiations and with what kind of conclusions before sending them to the government to implement the decision of the legislative house. The PM confirmed that the European proposal wasn't discussed at Tuesday's session of the government, which was also attended by the European Council President. Michel is due to meet with Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi and parliamentary group coordinators.
