Kovachevski: History can’t be only topic of discussion with Bulgaria, time to talk about economic, cultural cooperation
Skopje, 28 December 2021 (MIA) – SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski told Sitel TV on Tuesday regarding the dispute with Bulgaria that history can’t be the only topic of discussion between the two neighboring countries. “We have to also talk about the future, a future of investment and infrastructure projects, economic and cultural cooperation. These will bring citizens closer and provide economic benefit, through increased cooperation. So, it’s normal to discuss these topics and set up expert groups,” Kovachevski said during the interview. He also discussed Bulgaria’s timeframe, stressing that stakeholders should look for a solution based on European values. “Talks should be held in the spirit of European values. As a country, we have our own positions recognized by Parliament and Bulgaria has as well. A solution can be found in line with European values, preserving the dignity of both countries,” Kovachevski noted, adding that he expects Bulgarian PM Kiril Petkov to visit Skopje so they can discuss dispute resolution. In regard to the new SDSM leadership, he said that he expects the team to express efficiency, responsibility and honesty. “This team was chosen based on the foundations of my program. I expect them to set an example within the party, as well as within institutions with their honesty and responsibility, instead of just talking about enforcing justice and rule of law,” Kovachevski stressed. Moreover, regarding the composition of SDSM’s Executive Board, he said that it will bring success to the party and work in the best interest of citizens. “The Executive Board is made up of people from all walks of life. 50% of them are women, to ensure gender balance, while 33% are young people. So, it’s a mix of experience, knowledge, expertise of various professionals and young people who will bring added energy,” the SDSM leader said, highlighting that he expects support from previous party leadership. Kovachevski is set to receive the government-formation mandate from President Stevo Pendarovski on Wednesday.
