Kovachevski - Grzelczyk: Momentum for European perspective is unique, vocal and strong support from Poland for next step

Skopje, 19 July 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski met Wednesday with the newly appointed Polish Ambassador to North Macedonia, Krzysztof Grzelczyk.

Kovachevski welcomed Ambassador Grzelczyk noting that the 30th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between North Macedonia and Poland clearly reflects the great friendship and mutual support.

Interlocutors pointed out that Macedonian-Polish relations are firmly on a positive development track. Poland is North Macedonia's 12th trading partner and the economic cooperation is deepening with potentials in the energy sector, agriculture, police, education and culture, the Government said in a press release.

"Poland is our important partner within NATO, the United Nations, and one of the most vocal supporters for our EU integration. We appreciate Poland's activism through our friends in the EU Enlargement Group, and we are grateful for their continued support to North Macedonia's EU file. The fact that Poland stands behind our EU integration, with understanding and respect for the Macedonian strategic and identity matters and goals, encourages us to continue on our European path to full membership," Kovahcevski said.

Participants in the meeting highlighted Poland's strong support for the upcoming steps in North Macedonia's European integration process, with the aim of accelerated integration and full-fledged membership within the next few years.

"Interlocutors expressed expectation that all political entities in the country recognize the unique momentum for reaching the European goal and that MPs will vote for Europe. Particularly given that the EU, now more than ever, is committed to a new enlargement with the Western Balkan countries, motivated by the geopolitical situation with the war in Ukraine," the press release reads. ssh/nn/
