Kovachevski: Everyone in Parliament has obligation to support Euro-integration process

Skopje, 3 September 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski believes that MPs will support the country's Euro-integration process and the required majority for the constitutional changes will not be short of MPs.

Kovachevski reiterated on Sunday that a two-thirds majority is necessary to further continue the country's Euro-integration process.

"All MPs have an obligation to support the country's European path. Young people are leaving the country for EU countries because there is economic prosperity there, the rule of law, social justice and the rule of democracy. That's what our citizens want and that's what we want too," Kovachevski told reporters at Sunday's event presenting the new IPARD 3 programme.

He added that the benefits of joining the EU are huge, particularly in terms of the economy, pointing out that in countries that have joined the EU, the average wage has increased three-fold, and the level of investments has increased by 30 percent.

"For eleven years, the VMRO-DPMNE led government tried to have an alternative solution for economic growth. What did it achieve? Nothing. Two percent GDP, at three percent average inflation. No investments," said Kovachevski.

He believes that the screening process will be successfully completed, and once the constitutional amendments are adopted, the country will be able to open all chapters.

"It will be a new process and an input for the country when the reforms from all aspects begin," Kovachevski said.
