Kovachevski: Draft-conclusions very clear, process of constitutional amendments inevitable

Brussels, 13 December 2023 (MIA) - The draft-conclusions are very clear and we will certainly move forward with the reforms, whereas the process of constitutional amendments is inevitable and will eventually result in successful completion of the accession negotiations and our EU membership, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels on Wednesday.

PM Kovachevski said North Macedonia has successfully completed the screening process, which has been validated by the EU, but "we all know there is one more task we have to complete".

"It is now up to us but the discussion will continue, for sure. The process will continue and will inevitably end with North Macedonia's EU accession," said Kovachevski.

According to him, the situation would have been different if all political stakeholders in the country had shared the position of the ruling coalition, and "today we would be talking about opening of chapters and clusters".

On the constitutional amendments, the PM said it is a task that is very clearly noted in the draft-conclusions, which read that the second intergovernmental conference will take place as soon as they are adopted.
