Skopje, 6 May 2022 (MIA) – Blocking neither harms the Government nor the Parliament, it only harms the companies, the citizens and the country, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said after Friday’s visit to the facilities of German automotive supplier Marquardt near Veles. “I call on all MPs to be up to the task because they weren’t elected by a leader of a political party that takes orders from Budapest. MPs should be responsible because they are elected by the people, and they should work for the needs of the citizens and for a better life of the citizens,” Kovachevski said. He stressed that he and the Government are open for cooperation, noting that a regular debate is ongoing in Parliament with all political parties taking part, and he maintains communication on a daily basis with representatives of political parties. “As regards cooperation in the Parliament and regarding what the opposition announced, I said yesterday and I’ve said before that it is an extremely irresponsible slant, an irresponsible infantile slant by the leader of the opposition, classic mobbing of his MPs to block in Parliament something that shouldn’t be blocked. The Parliament should be a place where laws are passed, where laws are promoted because such laws are neither for the Government nor for the political parties. The laws are adopted for the citizens and for the companies that promote the country,” said Kovachevski. He pointed out that there already are several bills in Parliament that are drafted with amendments at the request of investors, and the legal changes will speed up the production process and logistics processes, increase sales, which in turn will increase the number of jobs and the wages of current employees. “SDSM is a party that has proved it always adopts its policies through dialogue. We’ve proved that we always use the Parliament as a place for debate, unlike VMRO-DPMNE which blocks today, and in the past they have used that very Parliament as a place for violence on several occasions,” said Kovachevski. In response to a reporter’s question about convening a leaders’ meeting with all parties, Kovachevski said they were open to talks with all parties. He added that meetings are already taking place with party leaders, discussing about laws, the energy crisis, the economic crisis, etc. The PM pointed out that his position on holding a leaders’ meeting is not contrary to that of coalition partner DUI, reiterating that meetings should be held on topics that are of interest to the citizens, instead of the only item on the agenda being early parliamentary elections because, he added, elections will be held in 2024.
