Kovachevski: Bechtel & Enka contract to be presented as soon as Parliament says

Skopje, 26 April 2023 (MIA) – As soon as the Parliament says, government representatives will present the Bechtel and Enka contract to the MPs who have security certificates, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Wednesday.

In response to a reporter's question, Kovachevski said that after the MPs’ request, he notified the Parliament Speaker that the government team is ready to present the agreement immediately.

After the opening of the Macedonia 2025 Summit, Kovachevski said that he has notified the Parliament Speaker that the Government team is ready to present the agreement, but he doesn't know if the Speaker knows because he had been away on business.

In response to comments about the lowered projections of the growth of the Macedonian economy by the World Bank, the PM said that, in times of crises, all international financial institutions change their assumptions for economic growth, and he pointed out that the improved credit rating of the country is especially important.

He also said that the Government is working on a law on wages in the public sector that will make salaries consistent and orderly.

“The law will be subject to public debate, and I think there is an initial version, which will then enter parliamentary procedures where all parties will express their opinions. In terms of other salaries, we are in talks with the Economic and Social Council for the general collective agreement that will make wages consistent for workers because various collective agreements provide different wages for workers with the same amount of responsibility. It’s inconsistent that an MP has a salary of MKD 60,000, and a secretary in a regulatory body has a salary of MKD 90,000,” the PM said. dk/nn/
