Kovachevski – Scholz: Clear decision on start of North Macedonia’s accession talks is of strategic importance for EU
Skopje, 11 June 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is paying an official visit to North Macedonia on Saturday, held a tête-à-tête meeting discussing about top priority issues in the relations between the two countries, as well as topics of mutual interest related to EU enlargement, regional cooperation, and the current situation in Ukraine. Kovachevski and Scholz agreed that relations and cooperation between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Federal Republic of Germany are based on a very intensive political dialogue and significant dynamics in all areas, the Government said in a press release. The two reaffirmed that Germany remains one of the key political partners of North Macedonia and an important ally and supporter in the process of the country’s European integration, which was further encouraged through several regional projects, including the Berlin Process on fulfilling EU recommendations and necessary reforms from the EU agenda. Interlocutors stressed that ahead of the EU Summit in June under the French Presidency, a clear message and a step to unblock the enlargement process are expected with start of accession talks for North Macedonia, as a country that fulfilled all criteria and requirements, and as a strategic decision of security importance for Europe, reads the press release. In addition, talks highlighted that the Federal Republic of Germany remains committed to being the country’s most important trade partner, as confirmed by the largest number of German companies present in North Macedonia, employing more than 20,000 Macedonian citizens.
