Kovachevski – Hahn: Secure European future means political and economic stability for North Macedonia

Skopje, 15 September 2023 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski met Friday with the European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, Johannes Hahn, within the frameworks of the third annual Skopje Economic Finance Forum (SEFF).

According to the Government, the meeting, which was also attended by EU Ambassador David Geer, focused on North Macedonia’s Euro-integration processes and the importance of the upcoming process of adoption of the constitutional amendments.

“It was underlined that North Macedonia should recognize the significance of the historic moment that it finds itself in, and the necessity to take a step forward in the Euro-integration process which will provide a secure European future for the citizens. The EU’s support for North Macedonia is a result of the strong commitment continuously demonstrated by the Government in the implementation of the reform processes,” said the Government in a press release, adding that the EU negotiations process will also positively affect the overall business environment.

At the meeting it was noted that the integration process also means fundamental changes, harmonization of institutional, economic and legislative frameworks with the laws, regulations, standards and policies of the EU. “This,” said the Government, “will enable GDP growth, drop in unemployment, access to the EU market, rise in direct foreign investments, increases to the minimum and average wage, as well as strengthening of political stability, security and the overall international positioning.”
