Skopje, 11 May 2023 (MIA) - As part of a visit to Tirana on Wednesday, Minister of Culture Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska met with Albanian counterpart Elva Margariti, discussing issues related to cultural cooperation between North Macedonia and Albania, the Ministry of Culture said in a press release.

Talks also focused on coordination in the process of management of the Ohrid region, as well as joint initiatives and projects for the protection of the Ohrid coastline.

"In terms of implementing UNESCO's recommendations, the Ministers of Culture agreed to intensify meeting of the bilateral committee on managing the Ohrid Lake basin, in order to find mechanisms to affirm and bring the Ohrid Region's significant UNESCO status closer to the general public," reads the press release.

Interlocutors emphasized the need for greater use of UNESCO's funds, and called on all those who meet the requirements to apply to the extended call from UNESCO, the British Council, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation on the project Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans, funded by the European Union.

"Kostadinovska-Stojchevska and Margariti also tackled cooperation between the two countries within the Open Balkan initiative, highlighting last nights' successful visit of the Bitola Theatre in Tirana, as well as upcoming activities which offer great opportunities for deepening relations and the development of the region towards achieving the common goal of European integration process," the press release adds. ssh/nn/
