Kiev reports killing two held responsible for murder of intel officer

Kiev, 13 July 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Ukrainian agents have "eliminated" a man and a woman said to be responsible for the killing of a SBU secret service officer in Kiev, the Ukrainian agency said on Sunday.

The two suspects were acting on behalf of Russia and their hideout was uncovered as part of secret investigations, Vasyl Malyuk, head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), said in a video posted by the agency on Telegram.

"They resisted arrest, a firefight ensued, and the criminals were eliminated," Malyuk says in the video.

Death was the only option going forward for such criminals, he stressed. At the end of the video, two dead bodies are visible behind the officer, presumably the suspects.

It comes after an SBU officer was killed by five shots in Kiev on Thursday. He is said to have been involved in the planning of acts of sabotage carried out in Russia.

As part of its defence against the more than three-year Russian invasion, Ukraine has repeatedly carried out attacks on Russian soil to disrupt the enemy's capabilities to continue the war.
