Kamchev remains in detention, court rejects offered guarantee
Skopje, 3 September 2021 (MIA) – Businessman Jordan Kamchev, a suspect in the “Vodno Lots” case, remains in detention at the Skopje prison after the Criminal Court rejected an offered guarantee.
According to the court, Kamchev can appeal to this decision to the Appellate Court within three days.
Speaking at last week’s press conference, Kamchev’s defense attorney, Elenko Milanov, informed about the offered guarantee for him to be able to defend himself before the court - real estate of over EUR 1 million EUR 200,000 in cash, at the same time reacting that in the procedure according to the indictment his client Jordan Kamchev is the fifth accused and the only person who has been in detention for the past five or six months.
Ilija Trpkov is the presiding judge in the “Vodno lots” case, while the prosecution is represented by Lile Stefanova.
Kamchev was detained on March 14 after the National Security Agency tipped the police that the suspect prepared to escape. He is one of the suspects in the case related to illegal purchase of building lots at Vodno hill. Fugitive ex-PM Nikola Gruevski is the first suspect in the investigation launched by the prosecution for committing crime – money laundering and illegal purchase of building lots amounting to EUR 1.3 million at Vodno.
