Skopje, 9 February 2025 (MIA) - There is no way to dissolve the Judicial Council or its members by force. They might not resign even if a no-confidence vote is successful in Parliament. Nevertheless, the fight for changes in the judicial system will continue through public pressure, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski over the interpellations that the ruling parties have submitted for the Judicial Council members elected by the Parliament.
"The authority that elected these five members has the right to give its opinion on their work, which it has by not endorsing the Council's report. Now, it is logical that lawmakers submit an interpellation motion for members they elected. However, let me stress that their term would not end (if the vote goes through). They might not resign and continue to sit in their posts. The law is not specific in this regard and this could happen," PM Mickoski told reporters on Sunday.
The PM said he would not be surprised if this happened, and as politicians, "we can only put public pressure because I believe the public is not satisfied from the Council".
"We cannot do anything by force, they are protected by the law. They might say 'we will not resign' and complete their term. The tool we have at our disposal is the public. We fight together with the public. I believe the public is not satisfied from this composition of the Judicial Council and there is no better tool than the public," said Mickoski.
He hoped they would be virtuous enough to resign if the interpellation is successful.
VMRO-DPMNE, ZNAM and Worth It MPs have filed a no-confidence motion for Judicial Council members elected by the Parliament - Vesna Dameva, Miljazim Mustafa, Tanja Chacharova-Ilievska, Pavlina Crvenkovska and Selim Ademi.
