Joveva: European Parliament gives full support to start of negotiations
Skopje, 29 June 2022 (MIA) – The European Parliament gives full support to start of negotiations, MEP Irena Joveva told Wednesday’s meeting with Deputy PM for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska. MEP Vladimír Bilčík and Head of the EU Delegation to North Macedonia, Ambassador Davis Geer, also attended the meeting. MEP Joveva, who comes from Slovenia and is of Macedonian descent, voiced optimism that the start of negotiations will happen soon. Bilčík also stressed European support, highlighting the importance of continuing political dialogue when it comes to the country’s strategic interests, such as European integration. Talks focused on current reforms in the area of implementing good governance policies, the Government said in a press release. The importance of political support was particularly underlined, as well as expertise coming through EU funds in the implementation of reform processes in the country. Grkovska stressed that despite the Bulgarian veto, North Macedonia continues reforms at home. The Government, she added, is committed to building a society with professional, efficient, transparent and responsible institutions focused on providing better services for the citizens. “My job as Deputy Prime Minister for good governance policies is focused on establishing systemic and long-term solutions. The policy-making cabinet is based on three pillars, including digital transformation of society, transparent and efficient institutions, and development of anti-corruption policies. We have established partnerships and cooperation with the ministries, as well as with the Anti-Corruption Commission, the State Audit Office, the Public Procurement Bureau, as well as with civil society organizations,” said Grkovska. Interlocutors also exchanged views on the work of the administration and the process of digital transformation of society.
