Skopje, 16 September 2024 (MIA) - The composition of the joint commission with Greece will undergo changes in the coming weeks, according to sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

The Government has already made changes in the composition of the joint commission on historical issues with Bulgaria.

Later this week, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski will pay a visit to Brussels, where they are set to meet with regional leaders and EU senior officials, "presenting our key arguments from the Government's strategic standpoint".

According to the sources, the dialogue with Bulgaria should continue towards reaching a solution, noting that Council conclusions do not require a change so as to accept the Government's position for delayed implementation of the constitutional amendments.

They add that North Macedonia's position is to take part in the discussions but that the country is not prepared to move forward under these conditions, namely adoption of constitutional amendments in order to open the negotiating chapters.

The ministry sources say there is no guarantee this will be the final bilateral concession required by Bulgaria, thus creating a dangerous practice that harms the enlargement policy, while adding the diplomacy in the coming period will focus on convincing other EU member-states that the country has made a lot of concessions on its EU path.

The sources also say that the foreign ministers of North Macedonia and Greece will meet on the sidelines of next week's United Nations General Assembly in New York.
