Janevska: Inspections of higher education institutions to resume after local elections

Skopje, 24 September 2025 (MIA) – Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska said Wednesday that the inspections of higher education institutions will resume after the local elections.

While overseeing the construction works of the sports hall at “Dimitar Pop Georgiev Berovski” in Gjorche Petrov municipality, she responded to the reporters’ questions regarding the closure of the private higher vocational school – Faculty of Business Economics in Skopje, stating that commissions have been formed to evaluate their work to enhance higher education quality.

“An inspection was also carried out in this institution, where numerous irregularities in personnel and facilities were identified. We gave them a one-month deadline to address the issues, but they filed to act and also lost their premises. We then contacted the Agency for Quality in Higher Education, which confirmed that the faculty is non-functional. In accordance with the law, we issued a decision on Tuesday to temporarily suspend the operation of this higher education institution,” Janevska said.

She noted that 14 private research institutes have been closed so far, and this is the first private higher education institution that will no longer operate.

“I hope that, following the example of private universities and some higher education institutions that fail to meet the criteria, they will voluntarily initiate closure, otherwise, we will take action to close them,” Janevska said.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science, due to identified irregularities and failure to address them, a decision was issued Tuesday to temporarily halt the operations of the private higher vocational school – Faculty of Business Economics in Skopje.
