Iran's IRGC confirms death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh

Tehran, 31 July 2024 (dpa/MIA) — Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have confirmed the death of Ismail Haniyeh, leader of Palestinian militant organization Hamas.
Haniyeh was killed in an attack at his home in Tehran, a brief statement from the Iranian force said.
The statement added that his bodyguard also died a "martyr's death," adding that further information would be released later.
Hamas had previously announced Haniyeh's death in a statement posted on Telegram and blamed Israel for it.
There was initially no confirmation from the Israeli side.
