Investigators find another body in Besa Trans bus, number of recovered bodies stands at 45
Sofia, 26 November 2021 (MIA) – During an additional search carried out by Bulgarian investigators on Friday, another body was found in the Besa Trans bus on the Struma highway, Siika Mileva, spokesperson of Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Office, told MIA’s Sofia correspondent on Friday.
The number of bodies recovered from the bus now stands at 45.
Mileva said on Thursday that 44 bodies have been recovered from the site of the bus accident, while a survivor claims he saved eight, not seven people.
“We found 44 bodies and he claims that eight people were saved. I told him that seven people are treated in the hospital but he was clear that eight people were saved from the bus. According to the data we have, 52 persons were in the bus, 44 bodies have been recovered, seven people – four men and three women – are hospitalized. The big question is over the whereabouts of the eighth person. We are working on this, we don’t want to spread disinformation, maybe the witness’ faulty memory is a factor here,” Mileva told a press conference.
The Sofia Ambulance confirmed that seven injured passengers were taken to the Pirogov hospital from the scene of the accident.
A team of Bulgarian prosecutors and investigators has arrived in Skopje to collect the DNA samples of bus accident victims so they can match and identify the remains of the 44 bus accident victims. After the victims are identified, their bodies will be transferred to North Macedonia and handed over to their families.
