Skopje, 8 April 2024 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski in a note Monday congratulated the Roma community in North Macedonia on International Romani Day.
Expressing his respect for the Roma ethnic community, calling it an unbreakable part of the Macedonian multiethnic society, Pendarovski thanked the community for its contribution to the development and progress of the common homeland, his office said in a press release.
“On this important day not only for the Roma community but also for all our citizens, I’d like to urge everyone to keep working to settle all the challenges our fellow Roma citizens have been facing,” said the President.
Also, the achievements and the challenges the Roma community is facing in the country are mentioned in the note.
President Pendarovski said it is commendable that a municipality has a Roma mayor where the Romani language is official.
“However, we also have to note the problems the Roma people are facing, including access to healthcare protection, education, housing, them being considered as socially and economically vulnerable. Thus, dedication is needed and without improvisations to seek solutions. Let’s tackle all open issues together and in unity so as to build a prosperous and safe future for everyone,” Pendarovski said in his note congratulating the International Romani Day.
