Injured policemen, arrests in incidents after protest march against French proposal
Skopje, 5 July 2022 (MIA) - Three policemen are injured and one police vehicle has been damaged during the incidents that took place in front of the Parliament in Skopje after a protest against the French proposal was held Tuesday for the fourth day in a row, police officers from the ground confirmed to MIA.
The Interior Ministry confirmed that policemen were injured, but it didn't specify how many, and that protesters were also arrested.
Police started to push a group of protesters right in front of the Parliament after they breached a guard fence and threw objects at the police cordon and the legislative house's building.
After a standoff between some dozen protesters and police, several arrests were made.
Earlier, protesters, who demand resignation from the government, began their march from the government before arriving in front of the Foreign Ministry and the Parliament.
Several protesters threw firecrackers and eggs at the Ministry's building.
In a press release issued right after the incidents, the ruling party SDSM said it condemns the violence and accused "VMRO-DPMNE and the pro-Russian party Levica of trying to destabilize the country."
"The right to protest is a guaranteed right, but violence is a crime and all those involved must be held accountable," said the press release.
