Infirm, inmates, persons in retirement homes vote on Tuesday

Skopje, 7 May 2024 (MIA) - Ahead of the second round of North Macedonia’s seventh presidential elections and eleventh parliamentary elections to be held on May 8, the infirm, inmates, persons in retirement homes, as well as nationals registered to vote in the diaspora and internally displaced persons are voting on Tuesday.

For the second round of presidential and parliamentary elections, the number of registered infirm persons has increased, who will be visited today by members of the election committees to vote from home.

The State Election Commission (SEC) told MIA on Monday that for the presidential elections, 11,123 infirm persons will vote, while for the parliamentary elections, the number is higher by 102 voters, totaling 11,225 persons who will cast their votes.

Also, in 14 polling stations within penitentiary institutions, 2,147 voters are expected to vote in the presidential elections, while for the parliamentary elections, 2,140 voters are registered in the Electoral Roll. Today, 534 voters accommodated in 20 out-of-family care centres will exercise their right to vote, while the Electoral List also includes two internally displaced individuals.

Voting in the diaspora will only take place for the second round of the presidential elections at 31 polling stations. In the special extracts from the Electoral Roll for persons who have applied to vote in diplomatic or consular missions abroad, 2,569 voters are registered.

Voting for the parliamentary elections in the diaspora will not take place due to an insufficient number of registered citizens from our country.

In the second round of the presidential elections on May 8, there will be 1.814.317 eligible voters, while 1.815.350 citizens can vote in the parliamentary elections on the same day. The difference of 1033 voters is mainly due to citizens who are coming of age.

In the second round of the presidential elections, voters will be able to choose between two candidates – Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, the candidate backed by VMRO-DPMNE and its coalition, and SDSM-endorsed Stevo Pendarovski. At the parliamentary elections, there are 17 lists of MP candidates on the ballot.
