Impunity and no rule of law - reasons for critical EC report: SCPC chief
- Impunity and no rule of law in the system is the reason for the critical report of the European Commission, and judiciary must undergo biggest change in order to make a general shift, said State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) chair Biljana Ivanovska on Thursday.
Tetovo, 16 November 2023 (MIA) - Impunity and no rule of law in the system is the reason for the critical report of the European Commission, and judiciary must undergo biggest change in order to make a general shift, said State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) chair Biljana Ivanovska on Thursday.
"This is a report in which the SCPC has been positively assessed. It is unfortunate that we have such a report and I can say that we have identified and provided recommendations on 99 percent of what the Commission has noted. It is unfortuate to see institutions not respecting each other. Our recommendations are not observed, the State Audit Office recommendations are not observed. We cannot move forward if they don't respect one another. There is no observance of laws or recommendations, no respect among people. The first thing we have to learn is to respect each other," Ivanovska told reporters.
The SCPC chief said the judiciary is the biggest problem for the negative report regarding corrupton and rule of law.
"A proper judiciary is a prerequisite for all others to get in line. This is the sector that should produce culpability. Instead, we have impunity or no rule of law as the biggest corruption risk, alongside political influence. Lack of integrity in this sector leads to this situation," said Ivanovska.
