Igor Filkov takes office as justice minister

Skopje, 24 June 2024 (MIA) – Igor Filkov on Monday took office as justice minister, said the Ministry of Justice.

The minister pledged that during his term he will implement reforms in the sphere of judiciary also aimed at strengthening the fight against crime and corruption, removing politics from the judiciary and the prosecution all the while restoring public trust in the judicial system and the rule of law, said a press release. 

“In the period to come, the focus will be on amendments to the laws on the Judicial Council, the Public Prosecution, the Council of Public Prosecutors, on implementation of the reform agenda as part of the process to implement the Western Balkans Growth Plan, the roadmap for the rule of law, which will define the road of the reforms and measures leading to the ultimate goal – competition of the negotiations and inclusion of the candidate countries in the report on the rule of law, being an instrument of early detection or prevention of the challenges with the rule of law,” stated the press release.  

Born in Skopje, Filkov, who is a member of the executive board of the ZNAM Movement, studied law at the Skopje University. 

He succeeds Krenar Lloga, a member of Ziadin Sela’s Alliance for Albanians, who was appointed as justice minister in February 2023.
