I have no problem to meet with Bulgarian PM, European creativity should be expressed, says President
- President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova said Friday that although the rule is to have a meeting with her counterpart, she has no problem to sit down for a meeting with Bulgarian prime minister, Rossen Jeliazkov, at the NATO Summit in the Hague after it has been confirmed that her Bulgarian counterpart, President Rumen Radev, won’t attend the Hague summit, in an attempt to have the country’s EU integration process unblocked.

Skopje, 13 June 2025 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova said Friday that although the rule is to have a meeting with her counterpart, she has no problem to sit down for a meeting with Bulgarian prime minister, Rossen Jeliazkov, at the NATO Summit in the Hague after it has been confirmed that her Bulgarian counterpart, President Rumen Radev, won’t attend the Hague summit, in an attempt to have the country’s EU integration process unblocked.
"I talked with Mr Antonio Costa about a potential meeting as the proposal was his. I’ll travel there if it’s my turn. The rule is to have a meeting with the counterpart, but it doesn’t depend on me, it depends on our neighbours. As we are so close, we can have talks nearby, however it was Mr Costa’s proposal. When I was in Nice, he told me that Mr Radev won’t attend the NATO Summit, Jeliazkov will come instead,” Siljanovska Davkova said when asked about before attending a literary event on Friday.
Asked whether a possible meeting with Jeliazkov has been confirmed, the President said it should be confirmed by the European Council President since it was his proposal.
“I’m ready to talk with Mr Radev. We’ve seen each other a few times, he knows my positions, which are also our national positions. Mr Antonio knows them as well. I always say there’ll be a time for European creativity, which we’ve already seen, and in this case, it would benefit the region and the most important process at the moment, perhaps, the European enlargement process,” stated Siljanovska Davkova.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said he won’t attend the NATO Summit in the Hague this month, where President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova will be in attendance.
Considering reports coming from Bulgaria that Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov would replace President Rumen Radev for the event, PM Mickoski said that any initiative for a meeting should be accepted, in order to demonstrate a proactive approach.
Earlier this week, PM Mickoski said the core of the issue is “the attempt made to create a new Macedonian nation, the result of a Comintern decision after 1945 that the new Macedonian nation uses a new Macedonian language… founded on Bulgarian roots.”
