Skopje, 22 July 2023 (MIA) – Emergency medical services in Skopje have registered a surge in the number of calls over the past few days. On Saturday, calls are particularly related to emergencies in public spaces, but not just people fainting due to the heat, doctor Gjorgji Karamanovski told MIA.
During the whole week, he noted, there were several traffic accidents, at least five to six during the day, as well as four to five people fainting.
According to Karamanovski, people are most likely fainting due to the hot weather and because they fail to listen to the recommendations which include to avoid going out when it is the hottest.
He noted that the traffic accidents on Saturday, in which there are no serious injuries, may also be the result of reduced concentration.
"The injuries are lighter. Obviously reduced concentration, everyone is in a hurry somewhere, the hot weather takes its toll, just as the dynamic life," said Karamanovski.
Recommendations to citizens for this type of weather include wearing light clothes, drinking lots of water, and avoiding outdoor activities.
