Skopje, 12 July 2025 (MIA) - The Health Insurance Fund will now cover the costs for a total of six, instead of three, attempts at Biomedical Assisted Fertilization (BAF) to help couples trying to conceive. Health Insurance Fund general directors Sasho Klekovski and Branko Adzhigogov said Saturday that this is one of the legal amendments adopted on July 10, 2025, in Parliament.
"The amendments provide for including BAF in the basic package of health services, as well as an increase from three to six attempts at BAF at the expense of the Fund,," said Klekovski.
He added that the Fund has also digitalized the process and simplified administrative requirements.

According to the directors, another news is that treatment abroad is being made easier.
"The recommendations of the State Audit Office are being implemented. The Second Instance Commission will be deciding only on appeals, no longer on the opinion of the First Instance Commission, which shortens the process. The decision-making period is being shortened from 45 to 30 days, and the conclusion of contracts with foreign hospitals is being deleted due to inapplicability," Klekovski said.
According to the Health Insurance Fund, a growing number of couples and individuals are experiencing problems conceiving, and the success of treatment often increases with the increasing number of attempts.
