Health Insurance Fund marks 25th anniversary

Skopje, 14 November 2025 (MIA) – The Health Insurance Fund (FZO) marks Friday its 25th anniversary at an event in Skopje with FZO head Sasho Klekovski holding a presentation in which it was noted that the Fund has 1,840,000 insured persons, of which 1,200,000 are health insurance holders.

The Fund has a budget of 53 billion denars and the insured pay 3,000 denars a month, which is at the level of middle-income countries, according to Klekovski.

Addressing the ceremony, Klekovski presented an array of statistical data showing how much it is invested in public healthcare and what kind of services are provided by health professionals, how many drugs are on the positive list, how many people are receiving medical treatment abroad, etc.

“This healthcare system delivers. There are shortcomings for sure, but it delivers anyway,” the Fund’s director stressed.

Klekovski also talked about what needs to be done in the future to improve health services, including reorganization and regionalisation of the health system.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski in his speech said the government is committed to improving public healthcare.

“From what we saw, the Fund slowly but surely is restoring its integrity and the only way is unwavering fight against crime and corruption,” said Mickoski stressing that the fight against crime and corruption is the main priority.

“I’ve been following it closely and we need to improve,” the PM stated.

He thanked all health professionals, on behalf of the government and on his personal behalf, who were involved in the treatment of the victims of the Kochani nightclub fire.

At the ceremony marking FZO’s 25th anniversary, videos were screened about the development of the institution and the emergency assistance enabled by health authorities and the Fund for a heart transplantation of a child.
