Grkovska: Strategic Dialogue to upgrade US-North Macedonia relations, important for good governance

Skopje, 3 June 2022 (MIA) - Deputy PM for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska joined late on Thursday the North Macedonia-United States Strategic Dialogue via video conference.
She participated in the session focused on rule of law and good governance held at the US State Department in Washington.
In her address, Deputy Prime Minister Grkovska stressed that the Strategic Dialogue is aimed at upgrading the relations between the two countries, which is especially important in the field of good governance. She said the cooperation between the two countries is essential and covers a broad range of issues of national interest and aimed at improving the lives of the citizens of North Macedonia.
She also underlined that the focus of her cabinet is based on three pillars: digital transformation of society, transparent and efficient institutions and development anti-corruption policies.
“The Government of North Macedonia is committed to building a society with professional, efficient, transparent and accountable institutions, aimed at providing better services to citizens,” Grkovska noted.
Deputy PM Grkovska said that with the US support and in partnership with experts from Estonia, intensive work is being done on the digital transformation of society aimed at providing services in a fast, simple and easily accessible way.
In that regard, the process of introducing an e-ID card has already started, which is a key step for the digital transformation of the society.
“I would especially like to thank the US Embassy in North Macedonia and the USAID Skopje team for their support so far. There is a lot of work and many challenges ahead, but I am confident that with a strong partnership between our two governments we will achieve results and sustainable solutions, which we will be proud of," Grkovska said.
Deputy PM Grkovska referring to the Summit for Democracy, which will be held this year under the auspices of President Biden, underscored that the Republic of North Macedonia remains committed to joint efforts to oppose authoritarian regimes, as well as to redouble efforts against corruption and protection of human rights and freedoms, by building resilient and efficient institutions.
“At the upcoming Summit, North Macedonia will present specific goals, focused on positive institutional reforms, digital transformation of society, as well as a continuous commitment to oppose authoritarianism in Europe,” Grkovska said. sk/
