Grkovska: Next steps in establishing national electronic identity defined

Skopje, 25 January 2023 (MIA) – Deputy PM for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska held Wednesday a working meeting with Estonian expert Raul Kaidro and representatives of the Ministry of Interior, analyzing further steps in establishing national electronic identity for every citizen based on a plan adopted at Tuesday’s government session.

At the meeting, also attended by representatives of the US Embassy in the country as supporters of the process, Kaidro presented a concept defining all further steps, as well as a structure that should be established in order to introduce electronic identity, a precondition for the process of digital transformation of society, the Government said in a press release.

Deputy PM Grkovska said it is a complex process, but all competent institutions must fully commit to the plan for implementing this activity, because digital transformation can improve the efficiency of institutions in the interest of the citizens.

The process of digital transformation of society, as well as establishing national electronic identity, is implemented by the Republic of North Macedonia through the Estonian Center for International Development in the area of digitization and e-governance, with the support of the US Embassy in the country.
