Skopje, 1 November 2023 (MIA) – A country’s administrative system is of great importance because, on one side, it should serve the citizens, while on the other it should also be the driver of reform processes, said the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of good governance policies, Slavica Grkovska, at a working meeting Wednesday with the Vice President of the National School of Public Administration and Local Government, Vassilis Exarchos, in Athens.

“To that end,” added Grkovska, “North Macedonia is committed to the reforms that will strengthen the country’s administrative capacity, since even though the administration employs too many people, it is still experiencing a lack of staff with expertise.”

According to a press release from Grkovska’s Office, at the meeting Exarchos proposed a joint effort with the Macedonian officials in terms of training for the administration through the European Union’s twinning programs.

Grkovska and Exarchos also spoke about the reforms being implemented by Greece regarding high posts in the country’s public administration.

“Deputy Prime Minister Grkovska stressed that work must be done to strengthen the skills, integrity and responsibility among workers in the administration, as well as in terms of training in the area of digitization, for which the experience and practice of Greece can be greatly beneficial,” said the Deputy PM’s Office.

At the meeting, Grkovska noted that North Macedonia is currently working on drafting entirely new legislation on administrative workers, public sector employees, as well as senior management workers, which are expected to strengthen the merit system during employment.
