Athens, 12 May 2024 (MIA) - We, as a party that paid a heavy price for its patriotism, call on the new leadership of North Macedonia to come to its senses and think about its responsibilities towards the history and future of its people, wrote Syriza leader Stefanos Kasselakis in a post on social media platform X on Sunday, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.

In the post, the leader of the Greek opposition party directed questions, as well as criticism towards the current Greek Prime Minister regarding the Prespa Agreement, considering Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ opposition to the Agreement when he was the leader of the opposition.

Kasselakis asked Mitsotakis why he is now "begging" for the Agreement to be respected, and asks whether it wasn’t a “treacherous” agreement after all.

“The Prime Minister says he didn’t like the Agreement, but the state has continuity which is why it must be respected. No Mr. Mitsotakis. You never beg for something that is negative for your country to be respected,” Kasselakis wrote, adding that the Agreement is either considered beneficial for Greece and respected or seen as a bad agreement and scrapped.

In the post he added “the historical truth is sometimes slow to emerge, but it always vindicates the brave, true patriots”.
