Greek Foreign Ministry on Mickoski's remarks: Macedonian issue is resolved definitely and irrevocably

Athens, 23 January 2025 (MIA) - In his remarks in New Jersey, the United States, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia chose to talk about "unresolved" and "existing" Macedonian issue. This is considered a provocation for Greece in an attempt to bring back to the fore an issue that has been resolved, as is well known, definitively and irrevocably, the Greek Foreign Ministry said reacting to PM Hristijan Mickoski’s remarks, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.

“Greece notes that further progress in its bilateral relations with North Macedonia and the smooth continuation of its neighbour’s European path presuppose full respect for the Prespa Agreement and, of course, abstention from irredentist declarations and claims against neighbouring countries,” says the Foreign Ministry statement.

Its reaction comes after PM Mickoski’s remarks in the United States saying: “We should be also winning in Washington, Brussels, Berlin, London, Paris, Rome and other world capitals if we want the Macedonian issue to be finally resolved because it isn’t solved, it has been ongoing for centuries.”

Most Greek media outlets in their reports have said “Mickoski is provoking” while talking about “an unresolved issue.”
