Greek FM: Agreements must be observed regardless of governments
Athens, 2 November 2021 (MIA) - Agreements must be observed regardless of governments and we also look forward to full and consistent implementation of the Prespa Agreement in good faith, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said Tuesday in Athens after a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Nikola Selaković.
Speaking at a joint news conference, he reiterated that Greece supports the accession process of North Macedonia and Albania, adding his country will resume its efforts aimed at organizing the first intergovernmental conference as soon as possible, MIA’s Athens correspondent reported.
“With regard to North Macedonia, I added what Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has emphasized, pacta sunt servanda. The Agreements must be observed regardless of governments. We also look forward to the full, consistent and good faith implementation of the Prespa Agreement,” stated Dendias.
Considering developments in the region, Minister Dendias said he reiterated Greece's steadfast opposition “to centrifugal forces that might want to redraw the map of our region.”
“But I must also be honest here, I directly exposed to him [Selaković] the influence of external factors that with mantles such as development aid and supposedly historical cultural, religious traditions promote extreme ideologies and a destabilizing agenda in the Balkans,” said Dendias noting that Western Balkans integration into the EU is the only way forward for the countries in Greece’s view.
