Greece deploys two firefighting aircraft to combat fire near Dojran

Athens, 12 July 2025 (MIA) – Greece is providing aerial assistance to North Macedonia with the dispatch of two Canadair CL-415, to extinguish a large forest fire in the village of Nikolikj in the Municipality of Dojran, near the Greek border, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.

The Greek Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection said the two firefighting aircraft took off from Thessaloniki on Saturday at 4:53 p.m. to assist in the firefighting efforts.

The Ministry notes that the deployment of the two aircraft is being carried out through the European Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), which has been activated following a request from the Republic of North Macedonia.

Last Wednesday, following a bilateral request from the Crisis Management Centre of the Republic of North Macedonia to the Unified Coordination Centre for Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK), the Greek Government also responded immediately to the request for support in battling the fire near Dojran, with the dispatch of two Canadair CL-415s and two firefighting vehicles with eight firefighting personnel.
