Skopje, 21 October 2025 (MIA) - The Government has tasked the Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the State Communal Inspectorate, the State Environmental Inspectorate, the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate, and the Public Health Institute, to carry out an extraordinary inspection in the City of Skopje and the Communal Hygiene public enterprise in order to assess the situation with uncollected waste in the capital and take the appropriate measures.

“The situation is alarming, and although the responsibility lies with the City of Skopje, due to continuous inaction, we call on the institutions to immediately act upon the decisions adopted by the government,” the government’s press office said in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the press release, at Tuesday’s session the government instructed the Interior Ministry and urged the Inspectorate of the City of Skopje to act within their legal competencies and investigate the operations of the Communal Hygiene public enterprise and the Mayor of Skopje regarding the failure to collect the waste in the capital.
