Skopje, 19 September 2023 (MIA) – The government at its session on Tuesday adopted a report on the need for development of the national security strategy and endorsed a decision for setting up a steering committee for coordination and development of this document. The committee will be composed of representatives of the Government and all ministries, as well as officials from the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to the government’s press release, the national security is the basis for the prosperity of the state and that only a safe environment can ensure the functioning of a mature and democratic constitutional order, sustainable economic growth, protection of human rights and freedoms and sustainability of civil society.

“Given the changed circumstances in the security environment on the European continent, including the military aggression against a sovereign and democratic state on the European continent, as well as the constant threat of active malignant actors and their attempts to directly or indirectly worsen the existing balance, there are several issues surrounding the supply of food, energy and key raw materials, which affect the stability and potential for development of individual countries and regions that need to be considered from the prism of the current geopolitical and security context,” government said in a press release.
