Governor Angelovska Bezhoska to attend annual IMF/World Bank meetings
Skopje, 12 October 2022 (MIA) – A delegation headed by the Governor of the National Bank Anita Angelovska Bezhoska and Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi will take part in the 2022 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) taking place this week in Washington DC. The delegation is set to hold meetings with senior officials of the IMF, the WB as well as with representatives of other international financial organizations and institutions, the National Bank said in a press release on Wednesday. “In this respect, the delegation will meet Bo Li, IMF Deputy Managing Director to discuss the future closer cooperation with our country within recently approved IMF’s Precautionary and Liquidity Line. Members of the delegation are also set to hold separate meetings with the Director of the European Department at the IMF Alfred Kammer, the Executive Director to the IMF Paul Hilbers, Alternate Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund Luc Dresse, and Head of the IMF Mission to the Republic of North Macedonia, Bergljot Bjornson Barkbu,” reads the press release. The discussions will focus on monetary policy and the economic situation in the country. The Governor Angelovska Bezhoska is scheduled to hold separate meetings with the representatives of the IMF's Statistics Department and the Monetary and Capital Markets Department to review the results of the ongoing cooperation between the National Bank and the IMF and as well as the possibilities for improvement of the operational activities of the National Bank in the field of monetary policy implementation in cooperation with the Fund's experts, reads the press release. The Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank held every year will discuss the outlook for the global economy. Leaders, experts and activists to discuss how we can best respond to the multiple overlapping crises facing developing countries. The Annual Meetings are taking place as the world grapples with the sharpest slowdown in economic activity in 80 years, rising inflation, a food and energy crisis, the war in Ukraine, the continued negative impact of COVID-19, climate change, and worsening poverty. The Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
