Skopje, 26 November 2024 (MIA) – The government adopted Tuesday a decision to allocate EUR 20 million for financing the construction of a new underground garage near the Skenderbeg square in Skopje, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti said at a press conference following the government session.
The new garage will have 371 parking spaces on two underground levels covering more than 13,000 square meters.
"The underground garage will provide adequate parking for people with disabilities. This investment demonstrates our commitment to addressing the infrastructure challenges persisting in our capital city, the Old Bazaar, Chair and Centar Municipalities," Mexhiti said.
The construction of the new garage, he added, was of particular importance for the Old Bazaar and the Municipality of Chair. He said it would solve the long-standing problem of insufficient parking spaces in this part of the city.
Mexhiti said the parking garage would also help attract more tourists to the Old Bazaar.
"We will work to realize the project in the shortest possible time and with the highest quality. We will ensure transparency and accountability at all stages of the implementation to justify the trust and expectations of the citizens,” Mexhiti said.
He said the tender for the construction project would be published soon and works were expected to start at the beginning of 2025. ssh/mr
