Skopje, 27 January 2026 (MIA) - A working group to establish a mechanism for protection against the abuse of so-called Strategic Lawsuits against Public Participation (SLAPPs) has been set up at a government session on Tuesday.
"At its session on Tuesday, the Government adopted a series of significant and essential decisions that reaffirm our determination and unwavering commitment to fulfilling the obligations of the European Union accession process, as well as to protecting the public interest and democratic values. Today, the Government took yet another strong and long-overdue step towards protecting freedom of expression and the public interest. We have set up a working group to establish a mechanism for protection against the abuse of so-called Strategic Lawsuits against Public Participation, a long-standing call among journalists and the media community. This is a clear signal that this Government has the understanding, courage and proactivity to address critical matters," said Government spokesperson Marija Miteva.
In addition, she noted that by adopting the Law on Organic Agricultural Production, the Government is making an important step forward in supporting small farmers.
"This law enables easier certification by reducing inspection and certification costs, which directly contributes to a more competitive placement of organic products on the market. Also, the legal framework is being improved with clearer, more precise and applicable provisions, aligned with European standards. With this, we are fulfilling yet another obligation arising from the EU accession process," Miteva pointed out.
