Government delegation lays flowers to mark Army Day
Skopje, 18 August 2021 (MIA) — To mark North Macedonia’s Army Day, Aug. 18, a government delegation consisting of Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani, and Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jagoda Shahpaska laid wreaths of fresh flowers at the partisan cemetery in Butel as well as at the graves of General Mihajlo Apostolski and the late presidents and commanders in chief Kiro Gligorov and Boris Trajkovski. According to the official press release, on Aug. 18, 1943, the "Mirche Acev" battalion was formed on Mount Slavej. During the People's Liberation War, the battalion grew into an army that liberated the country’s territory. “Today, 78 years later, the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia acts at the highest professional level, together with other allied troops of NATO member states, in accordance with the standards of the Alliance; participates in international peacekeeping missions; and contributes to preserving global peace and security,” the release reads. mr/
