Government and Makedonski Telekom sign MoU over EUR 40 million investment in infrastructure and digital transformation by 2028

Skopje, 17 July 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski and Makedonski Telekom CEO Goran Markovic signed Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding on enlargement of the 5G network, providing 10,000 new households and companies with gigabyte wired networks, cybersecurity and support to digital skills in education.

Minister Andonovski said the memorandum would contribute to increasing mutual support and cooperation at a higher level, through clearly defined goals and responsibility.

"As the leading private investor in digital infrastructure and a company in which the state is a shareholder, Makedonski Telekom will commit itself to investments that result in providing 10,000 new households and companies with gigabyte wired networks, enlargement of the 5G coverage, along with plans for construction of a Data Center. This partnership is not only an investment in infrastructure and servers, it is an investment in people as well. The memo also includes activities for digital literacy, cybersecurity, support to digital skills in education and equipment for elementary schools. The Government is obliged to create a business environment and legal certainty that stimulate investments, transparency and swift procedures for construction of a new generation of digital infrastructure with the latest amendments to the digitization laws, support for the construction of networks in rural environments and promotion of public-private projects," said Andonovski.

According to him, digital transformation is a societal commitment for the country's progress and development, because "each new online service means one less window, one less day in the queue".

"Our vision is that digitalization brings institutions closer to citizens, to create trust, predictability and decency with each administrative experience. These partnerships demonstrate that Macedonia can build a digital future that does not forget the people," said Andonovski.

Telekom CEO Markovic said the company has thus far invested EUR 1.15 billion in infrastructure and innovative solutions in the country, with EUR 40 million to be injected in infrastructure, digital transformation of companies and key public services and the Data Center by 2028.

"Today, we are reaffirming the joint objective with the Government for digital transformation and the country's prosperity. As partners, we are ready to move forward and the cooperation with the Government enables the alignment of our own initiatives with the national objectives, ensuring that our growth contributes to broader societal development," said Markovic.
