Government adopt draft-law on consumer protection

Government adopt draft-law on consumer protection
Skopje, 21 June 2022 (MIA) – The Government adopted Tuesday the draft-law on consumer protection and the report on the necessity of drafting a law on unfair trade practices for the purpose of protecting consumer rights. These laws will make North Macedonia the first country in the region to have legislation in place related to unfair trade practices. In compliance with European regulations, the laws ensure a high degree of protection of consumer rights and guarantees for improved business environment, while avoiding an imbalance in the negotiating power between suppliers and buyers of agriculture and food products, the Government said in a press release. Violation of consumer rights will lead to compensation, price reduction and contract termination, while traders are to be fined between EUR 500-10,000, depending on their size, but also bans on operations from three months to two years.
