Glavchev says will remind European leaders of conditions for North Macedonia's EU accession

Glavchev says will remind European leaders of conditions for North Macedonia's EU accession

Brussels, 27 June 2024 (MIA) - I expect North Macedonia to observe the agreements and I will remind European leaders of the commitments taken with the adoption of the Negotiating Framework on July 18, 2022, and the roadmaps for the country's EU accession, said Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev upon arriving for the EU Summit in Brussels on Thursday.

"In December 2023, this was made a little more concrete with the focus on the constitutional amendments. Recently, we have been hearing statements from party leaders, as well as government leaders in the Republic of North Macedonia that such changes will not be made," said Glavchev.

He noted that he will inform European leaders on what the situation is and what has been adopted so far regarding this issue.

Asked if Bulgaria has had any talks with Greece about taking any joint actions, the Bulgarian PM said there have been no such talks for the time being, but it is not ruled out for the future.

"For me, it is important to show what the Bulgarian position is, which is also a European position," said Glavchev, adding that for now he only intends to remind European leaders what is happening, because for Bulgaria it is an important topic.
