Gjorgjievski: Decent life for seniors, persons with disabilities, vulnerable groups in Skopje
- Providing care for people is not populism, it is the essence of public service. When we care for the seniors, when we support the vulnerable groups and create conditions for a decent life, then we are building a Skopje that is not divided by class or opportunity, but united around humanity, said VMRO-DPMNE Skopje mayor candidate Orce Gjorgjievski on Tuesday.
Skopje, 14 October 2025 (MIA) - Providing care for people is not populism, it is the essence of public service. When we care for the seniors, when we support the vulnerable groups and create conditions for a decent life, then we are building a Skopje that is not divided by class or opportunity, but united around humanity, said VMRO-DPMNE Skopje mayor candidate Orce Gjorgjievski on Tuesday.
Gjorgjievski said seniors want attention, dignity and security, and presented a set of measures to improve the quality of life for this group.
"We will introduce spa treatment, continued healthcare and rehabilitation, improved housing opportunities and options for an active social life. Mden 2,500 will be provided to low-income seniors, along with transport and home care for the elderly. We will also refurbish all retirement homes in the city so they become accessible and pleasant areas for socializing, education and active old age," said Gjorgjievski.
He also referred to the availability of infrastructure aimed at ensuring equality.
"We will build a city in which persons with disabilities, their families and seniors will get efficient, accessible and integrated support," said Gjorgjievski and listed several projects such as easier access to institutions for persons with disabilities, assistance in administrative procedures, digital tools, financial support for families and involvement of persons with disabilities in the labor market.
He also promised financial support for at-risk families and individuals through humanitarian packages, programmes for psychosocial support and counseling services, education and training programmes.
In addition, Gjorgjievski said reception centers providing 24/7 care for homeless people would also open, providing food, clothes and medical support, as well as development of programmes for their integration in the community.
"A specialized education center will open for persons suffering from diabetes and rare diseases, providing training and counseling on proper nutrition, healthy habits and management of chronic ailments. It will also provide psychosocial support to families, network with health institutions, patients' associations and international organizations etc," noted Gjorgjievski.
