Gjorgjievski announces construction of new boulevard in Skopje

Skopje, 16 October 2025 (MIA) – VMRO-DPMNE’s candidate for Mayor of Skopje, Orce Gjorgjievski, announced Thursday during a press briefing the construction of the first phase of the new boulevard, spanning 3,800 meters, describing it as a crucial infrastructure for the city’s eastern region.

“We are linking Gazi Baba, Butel, and Chair through Skopje’s inner ring road. This will speed up traffic, reduce transit through the city center, and boost economic and local connections,” Gjorgjievski said.

“The new boulevard will be a modern, safe, and functional boulevard built to European standards,” he said.

He also announced a new water pipeline to enhance supply in Avtokomanda, Zhelezara, and nearby villages in Gazi Baba.

“This investment will guarantee stable water pressure, secure water delivery, and a substantially higher quality of service for thousands of households, particularly in the summer months,” Gjorgjievski said.

He noted that the construction of boulevard will initiate a new phase in the development of a modern Skopje. His program comprises 40 capital projects designed to reshape the urban and traffic structure of the capital.

He added that the program includes four projects to expand the existing boulevards and intersections, six new boulevards linking the city, 16 new streets for better local mobility, and many intersections and roundabouts to increase traffic safety.

“These projects will make Skopje more organized, safer, and better connected, creating a modern, functional, and dignified city for all citizens,” Gjorgjievski stressed.

Gjorgjievski stated that, if elected, he will prioritize both new initiatives and ongoing projects started by previous mayors.

He told reporters that he expects to win decisively in the first round of the October 19 local elections, noting that a three-week delay to a second round would delay solutions to key city issues like garbage collection and public transport.
