Germany's KfW Bank to continue to support projects in N. Macedonia 
Skopje, 29 August 2022 (MIA) - Projects estimated at over EUR 150 million are implemented in the country with KfW Bank support. The implementation's dynamic and future cooperation in new projects were discussed Monday at a meeting of Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi with German Ambassador Anke Holstein and the new Director of the KfW Bank Office in North Macedonia and Kosovo. Part of KfW Bankengruppe, KfW Bank is responsible for financial cooperation with developing countries. With support of the German embassy, it is implementing financial cooperation as part of the bilateral development support with Germany. It also provides long-term capital all the while stimulating investments in infrastructure, financial systems and protection of the environment. KfW Bank's mission in North Macedonia aims at promoting sustainable development, support of the transition process and EU accession support. Thanking for the support from Germany and KfW Bank, Minister Besimi said during the meeting he expected it to continue and strengthen under the Bank's new leadership. The support includes the irrigation program estimated at EUR 80 million, the second stage of the Bogdanci Wind Park with EUR 18 million in support from the KfW Bank, construction of a heating system in Bitola with EUR 39 million provided by KfW Bank and reconstruction of student dormitories, estimated at EUR 20 million. KfW has show interest in cooperation in several projects, including the Miravci Wind Park, installation of photovoltaic stations in Bitola TE, Bitola Solar Heating and the third stage of the rehabilitation of six large hydroelectric power plants, the Finance Ministry said in a press release. "Germany is our important supporter and partner on our EU integration path and the development of the society while also being our top trade partner. The German government so far has invested EUR 500 million in the country," said the Ministry.
